I was trying to find a point which is a balence between recording and expression. My pictures emphasize the freedom and absurdity of the medium with surreal style, alternating between fake snapshots and precisely staged compositions. It has an undertone of madness and absurdity. I actually don’t feel like it is surreal because it’s all based in reality.
I always tried to keep blinders on when I first started off in photography. I would listen to a lot of music and look at a lot of painting and other mediums, but I don’t stalk a lot of photographers because I felt like that was a good way to fall into copying or not necessarily telling your own story.
I don't think I'm good at the theories from art scholars, so I choose a more direct way and go to find their interviews, because I think it's a very direct way to understand their creative process and compare our thinking difference in manner.
In fact, I have done something very unrelated to photography, but presented in a photographic way. I made a mv for a piece of classical music I really liked. In reality, very few people would spend the time and energy to do this because there is little benefit to it. But I'm obsessed with doing things that seem pointless but make me happy.
